• John 15:5

I am the vine, you are the branches, he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

John 15:5

As I sit in my garden, surrounded by pots of colorful flowers, ripening fruit, and vegetables ready to pick, I feel a sense of accomplishment and contentment.

I know that if I hadn't readied the soil, re-potted plants, and pruned when necessary, the results and my feelings would be quite different.

God is the Master Gardener, and Jesus is the vine.  As a Christian, I know that to draw closer to both, I must be fed by the word of God, be pruned when needed, and moved if necessary.

The results are like the beauty of my garden!

There is a richness in life, old thoughts and feelings get pruned away, and new ideas can flourish.  The direction God is calling me to produces good fruit, new fruit, abundant fruit.

Without His pruning, I stay rooted where I am, leading to stagnation and loss of direction.  Those feelings leave me frustrated and emotionally down.

Those who love to garden know who much time and energy it takes to make them beautiful and fruitful.  And, God does the same thing to and for us.

Without Him, we may accomplish many things.  With Him, those things are healthier, longer-lasting, and more abundant!

Thank you, Lord, for the gift of abundant life in and through You.  We need your nourishment, as well as, your pruning, to grow fully into the person that You designed us to be.  We want to be Your branches in this world and bear much fruit.  In Your Son Jesus' name,  amen.
